Curiosities

There are many possibilities for nice trips in the nearby surroundings. You have the different markets as in Forcalquier (the biggest in the region), Apt, Manosque, Oraison, Gréoux-les-Bains, where you can buy the local products (olive-oil, lavender, soap, fabrics of the Provence, and where you can take a seat at a terrace and get an impression of the provençal atmosphere. You will be in 5 quarters at the Mediterranean or within one and a half hour in the Alpes where you can walk in the eternal snow in spring.

The many road-maps to explore the surroundings on foot, vary from easy walks of one hour till “real” walks in the mountains from 5 till 6 hours. The Gorges de Trevans is really recommended.

The Grand Canyon of Europe, the Gorges du Verdon, you “have” to visit, when you are in the Provence , the beginning of the Gorges, Moustiers Ste Marie, is within 3 quarters of an hour from the campsite( famous for its faïence)

What is further worth seeing in the surroundings:

- big cities as Aix -en -Provence, Marseille (by boat to the Calanques) is within 3 quarters till an hour from the campsite
- monastery of Ganagobie (tessellated pavement)
- Salagon (gardens)
- in Digne –les- Bains the geologic museum (there is also a nice garden of butterflies),or the museum of Alexandra David Neel
- Lurs, very nice picturesque village, beautiful view over the Durance-valley
- by car to the Clues de Barles
- Mont Ventoux (for cyclists a challenge!)
- Colorado of Rustrel or Roussillon (red/ochre coloured rocks)
- Train des Pignes from Digne –les- Bains to Nice, most people go to Entrevaux (medieval city situated on a hill-top)
- citadel of Sisteron

And then you will have all the nice villages with each their own history, there is too much to tell.
You have to discover them yourselves…
